The Order of the Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon, also known as the Knights Templar, was a Catholic military order founded in 1119. The Knights Templar operated until 1312, when the order was indefinitely abolished by Pope Clement V. Wearing their distinctive white cloaks with a red cross, the Templars were one of the most skilled fighting units of the Crusades.
